Dear Ottawa Jewish community,
Hi, my name is Jill Binder. I grew up in Ottawa from 1976 to 2000. Some of you may remember me from Ottawa Modern Jewish School (where I was co-valedictorian in the late 1980s), Jewish Community Centre Day Camp, Camp B’nai Brith, Camp Gesher, Agudath Israel, or even any of the many Jewish youth groups I was active in during high school or university. You may know either of my parents, Marilyn Binder and the late David Binder.
The Ottawa Jewish community helped shape who I am today. I had been a very quiet and awkward child. The community helped me to find myself, to try out leadership, and to do so with a solid inner compass based on Jewish principles.
I am writing to you today to give you an update on how I am doing now, and to ask for your help!
I am now an internationally-recognized entrepreneur and diversity trainer, currently living in Vernon, BC, and I have been nominated for the 2020 BraveIT Award, a technology honour that acknowledges bravery in IT.
I am training people from underrepresented and marginalized groups around the world to become inspiring speakers and leaders in their tech conferences and companies. I also help technology conferences and companies get more speaker diversity on their stages and, ultimately, in their leadership.
Since 2018, my teams and I have helped 40 conferences in four techhnology communities and over 350 people from marginalized or underrepresented groups in 35 countries with my diverse speaker training programs. I was honoured as a Featured Person on WordPress.org in 2019, named one of the top 100 Influencers of WordPress in 2014 by Torque Magazine, and listed one of the top 10 Women of WordPress by CloudWays.

BraveIT is an annual tech event that celebrates and educates IT leaders. The BraveIT Award goes to an individual who works tirelessly to support the tech and IT community while giving back to good causes. The winner is selected based on most votes received.
