Ahead of Ottawa’s October 26 municipal election, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa surveyed candidates for City Council to better understand their positions on issues of importance to Jewish Ottawans.
Federation also provided candidates with its Municipal Election Issues Guide, outlining key concerns and providing important context, including statistics on antisemitic hate crimes in Ottawa.
Candidates’ responses to the questionnaire are reproduced in full. In some cases, candidates chose to share their views by email rather than respond directly to the questions. Where available, we have also included relevant public statements or positions on issues of concern to Jewish Ottawans, along with supporting sources.
For candidates who did not respond and for whom no relevant public statements could be identified, we have provided their campaign website and contact information.
The questions are as follows:
Question 1: What role can the City play to push back against antisemitism and the violent forms of antizionism so Jewish residents can live safely and openly in Ottawa?
Question 2: What steps should the City take when events on public property cross the line into intimidation, hate, support for terrorism or threats to public safety?
Question 3: Will you work with the Jewish Federation of Ottawa to better equip municipal agencies, programs and civic institutions to recognize, prevent and respond effectively to antisemitism? Please share how you will accomplish this.
Question 4: Will you oppose efforts to bring international political campaigns, including BDS measures targeting Israel, into city politics?
