Federation set to unveil monument in honour of those murdered on Oct. 7

October 7, 2023, will forever mark a dark chapter in our collective memory. In an unprecedented, tragic attack, Hamas terrorists unleashed a wave of violence on Israel, targeting civilians. Over a thousand lives were brutally taken, and communities were shattered. For Jews worldwide, it was a profound reminder of the constant struggle against forces that seek to erase our existence and harm our people.

This horrific day shook our community’s foundation. In the aftermath, we have come together, resolved to rebuild and fortify our resilience, standing united and strong against those who seek to harm us.

In memory of those who were murdered on October 7 and in honour of all those — first responders, medical teams, soldiers, and others — who have sacrificed their lives amid the ongoing conflict, the Jewish community of Ottawa is dedicating a permanent monument on our community campus.

This monument, made possible by a donation from the family of Adi Vital-Kaploun, z”l, along with Michael and Elizabeth Resnick in memory of Dr. Michael Krakow,  will stand as a lasting tribute to all that was lost and as a testament to the strength of the Jewish people.

The monument takes the form of a granite boulder — a natural, enduring marker symbolizing the resilience of the Jewish people. Granite, formed over millions of years, withstands the elements and remains strong, just as our community does. Though we may be shaped and weathered by adversity, we stand united, resilient, and unyielding. This is the Jewish community.

Please join us on October 27, 2024, at 3pm for the official unveiling of this new monument. This date coincides with the Hebrew date of the Oct. 7 terror attack, 22 Tishrei.

Registration is required and the location will be sent with the registration confirmation. Register here.
