Honouring Daniel Alfredsson
The Ottawa Senators’ team captain for 13 seasons (1999 to 2012-13), Daniel Alfredsson was the first Senator to capture a major National Hockey League award, winning the Calder Trophy in 1995-96, the King Clancy award in 2012 and later the Mark Messier Leadership award in 2012-13. In 2014, Alfredsson returned to Ottawa to formally retire from professional hockey as a Senator. In September of 2015 Alfredsson joined the Senators’ front office as senior advisor of hockey operations, a position he maintains today. Daniel Alfredsson was inducted into the International Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
Alfredsson has been an active member of the Ottawa community, most notably as public face of the Royal Ottawa’s “You Know Who I Am” campaign to raise awareness about how many people are affected by mental illness.
Supporting at-risk youth via Israel Tennis Centre, Kiryat Shmona
JNF Ottawa Negev Dinner will support youth-at-risk via the Israel Tennis Centre in Kiryat Shmona. ITC offers at-risk youth a path to success by giving them free access to social programs via tennis, social workers, help with language skills and homework, a caring and safe environment. His project will create expanded infrastructure to help serve a growing number of children needing access to services. Kiryat Shmona is a northern town in Israel and over the years has been frequently under attack, leaving kids feeling very vulnerable and on edge.
Israel Tennis Legend and former ITC student Andy Ram is our Keynote Speaker. Having immigrated to Israel as a child, Andy Ram attributes the ITC as giving him hope and a means to fulfill a dream. Without it, he would not have flourished, adjusted socially or acclimatized to a new language and a new country. He's an inspiring speaker and a role model for what can be achieved with positive interventions and access to the right resources for the duration of time needed--he was a student at ITC from the age of 5 to 14, when he was ranked #1 in Israel for his category. He went on to represent Israel at Wimbledon and Davis Cup.
