Congregation Machzikei Hadas held its Sisterhood High Tea on May 29.
More than 80 people attended the event and heard the classical cello of Ben Gitter play while enjoying a comprehensive menu – including gluten-free options.
According to event chair Carol Kershman, planning for the event began in February, with an organizing committee including herself, Debbie Baylin, Donna Hicks, Cathy Levine and Judith Kalin.
Guests were ushered to their table by a tuxedo clad Stanley Kershman, and were served by the committee with assistance from Ariella Segal and Abigail Freeman.
The menu included sandwiches (cream cheese pinwheels with smoked salmon and dill; egg salad with Dijon mustard and rosemary; savoury tuna with basil and shallots; cucumber with mint butter), desserts (chocolate fudge triangles; tangy lemon squares; maple butter tarts; classic shortbreads) and varieties of tea and coffee.
By the numbers:
-83 attendees (68 women, 15 men);
-250 sandwiches made, using 10 loaves of bread;
-Six dozen eggs used;
-24 cans of tuna opened;
-180 each shortbread, butter tarts and lemon squares produced.
“The event was definitely a success” said Carol Kershman. “We absolutely plan to do it again next year.”
