Jordanian assaults Israeli co-workers in Eilat in suspected terrorist attack

(JTA) – A Jordanian citizen on his second day on the job at the Eilat Port assaulted two Israeli co-workers with a hammer in what police said may have been a terrorist attack.

The incident Friday left the two victims with moderate injuries, the Israel Broadcasting Corp. reported. They were sent to a local hospital for treatment and then flown to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba. [Read more…]


Argentina arrests two men with suspected links to Hezbollah

BUENOS AIRES (JTA) – Police in Argentina arrested two men suspected of ties to Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement based on information provided by local Jews.

The two brothers in their twenties, Axel Ezequiel Abraham Salomon and Kevin Gamal Abraham Salomon, were arrested Thursday in the capital, Buenos Aires. Police discovered a small arsenal that included a rifle, one shotgun and a number of pistols, among other weapons, Reuters reported. [Read more…]


Pope Francis on Pittsburgh synagogue attack: ‘All of us are wounded by this inhuman act of violence’

(JTA) – Pope Francis led prayers for Pittsburgh in St. Peter’s Square, in the wake of an attack on a synagogue there that left 11 worshippers dead.

The head of the Catholic Church said Sunday morning that “all of us are wounded by this inhuman act of violence.”

On Sunday, after reciting the prayer The Angelus, the Pope said: “I express my closeness to the city of Pittsburgh, in the United States of America, and in particular to the Jewish community, hit yesterday by a terrible attack in the synagogue. The Most High welcomes the dead in his peace, comfort their families and support the wounded. In reality, we are all wounded by this inhumane act of violence. May the Lord help us to extinguish the outbreaks of hatred that develop in our societies, strengthening the sense of humanity, respect for life, moral and civil values, and the holy fear of God, who is Love and Father of all. “ [Read more…]


Investigation opened into Palestinian woman’s death by rock throwers

(JTA) – The Israel Security Agency (ISA) has opened an investigation into the death of a West Bank Palestinian mother of eight, who was killed when a rock thrown at the car driven by her husband struck her in the head.

Aisha Mohammed Rabi, 47, was killed late Friday night at the Tapuah Junction in the northern West Bank. Thousands attended her funeral on Saturday. [Read more…]


Syrian man arrested in Berlin for alleged chemical weapons plot targeting Israel

(JTA) – A Syrian man who was recently arrested in Germany belonged to a cell plotting to use chemical weapons in attacks on Israeli targets, a German tabloid reported.

The 21-year-old terror suspect was arrested last Thursday by Germany’s SEK unit in a Berlin cafe according to the report Friday in Bild. He was wanted in connection with an April 14 assault in the German capital, police said at the time of his arrest. [Read more…]
