Israel launches operation to destroy Hezbollah tunnels on northern border

JERUSALEM (JTA) – Israel’s military launched Operation Northern Shield, to destroy tunnels constructed by Hezbollah that reach from Lebanon into Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the discovery of the tunnels and began destroying them on Monday night. [Read more…]

IDF to destroy home of Palestinian teen who killed American-Israeli activist Ari Fuld

(JTA) – The Israel Defense Forces will demolish the home of the Palestinian teen who stabbed and killed American-Israeli activist Ari Fuld outside a West Bank shopping mall.

The IDF announced Tuesday that it would destroy the third floor apartment of the family of the assailant, Khalil Jabarin, 17, located in the West Bank village of Yatta, near Hebron. [Read more…]

Palestinian terror groups say they will observe cease-fire

(JTA) – Palestinian terror groups in Gaza reportedly have agreed to commit to a cease-fire of hostilities that have seen more than 400 rockets bombard southern Israel and Israeli retaliation in a 25-hour period.

Four mediators – Egypt, the United Nations, Norway and Switzerland – helped achieve the cease-fire, according to reports. [Read more…]

More than 400 rockets hit southern Israel in less than 24 hours, one killed

(JTA) – One person was killed and two seriously injured after a rocket fired from Gaza landed on an apartment building, as southern Israel remained under rocket siege for a second day.

The rocket hit the upper floors of a four-story apartment in Ashkelon shortly before midnight on Monday night. The body and one of the injured women were discovered early on Tuesday morning under the debris of a fallen wall. [Read more…]

IDF officials travel to Moscow to discuss downed Russian military plane

(JTA) – A delegation of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officials travelled to Moscow to present the situation report of the accidental downing of a Russian plane by Syrian anti-aircraft fire.

The delegation, led by the commander of the Israel Air Force, Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin, left on Thursday morning, according to the IDF. Other members of the delegation include Brig. Gen. Erez Maisel, the head of the IDF’s Foreign Relations Division, and other senior officers from the Air Force and the Intelligence and Operations divisions. [Read more…]

(JTA) – Israel closed the only pedestrian crossing with Gaza after rioting Palestinians damaged infrastructure.

The Israeli military announced its closure on Wednesday morning, after clashes on Tuesday between hundreds of rioting Palestinians and Israeli soldiers left several Palestinians injured. Israeli troops responded to the violence, including rock throwing and vandalizing infrastructure. [Read more…]

JERUSALEM (JTA) – The Israeli army has carried out 200 airstrikes in Syria in the past 18 months, a senior military army official told the Israeli media.

In the hours after the Israel Defense Forces’ acknowledgement of attacks on Tuesday, Syria’s official state-run SANA news agency reported that its military defence systems intercepted several Israeli missiles, but also said that Israeli missiles struck several military targets in Tartous and Hama, killing one and injuring four. Trump aide and Israeli army warn of war as Gaza missiles fly

(JTA) – After firing more than 180 rockets into civilian areas, armed terror groups in Gaza said Thursday afternoon that they would refrain from firing on southern Israel if Israel also maintains the calm.

Shortly after the announcement, however, more rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel. Code Red rocket alert sirens were sounded as far away from the Gaza border as Beersheba, the first time that sirens have gone off in the city since the 2014 Gaza War. At least two rockets exploded in open areas near Beersheba. [Read more…]
