Chelsea Clinton cites Purim in scoring congressman who says ‘demographics are our destiny’

(JTA) – Chelsea Clinton cited the lessons of Purim to chastise a congressman who said restoring Western civilization could not be done “with somebody else’s babies.”

“Clearly the Congressman does not view all our children as, well, all our children,” Clinton, the daughter of former president Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, who lost the November presidential election to Donald Trump, said Sunday in a tweet quoting a tweet by U.S. Rep. Bill Clinton cites atmosphere before Rabin murder as precedent for current nationalist surge

WASHINGTON (JTA) – Bill Clinton cited the incitement against Yitzhak Rabin prior to his assassination as a precedent for increased ultranationalist sentiment today.

In remarks Thursday at the Bookings Institution in Washington, on the occasion of a book launch for Itamar Rabinovich’s “Yitzhak Rabin: Soldier, Leader, Statesman,” the former U.S. president said that Rabin was subjected to a “relentless assault on his legitimacy” that presaged the battles raging around the world today. (JTA) – Alan Gross, imprisoned for five years in Cuba for his efforts to assist its Jewish community, said of Cuban leader Fidel Castro: “History will never absolve him.”

Castro’s death at the age of 90 was announced Friday night by his brother, Raul Castro, Cuba’s current president. [Read more…]

Netanyahu, in phone call with Hillary Clinton, thanks her for support of Israel
