Family of Ethiopian-Israeli man held by Hamas receives video of his crossing into Gaza

(JTA) – The family of an Ethiopian-Israeli man held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip after he voluntarily crossed the border fence was given a copy of video footage showing his crossing.

Avraham Abera Mengistu, 30, of Ashkelon, is believed to have voluntarily climbed over the security fence between Israel and Gaza in September 2014, and has not been heard from since. He is mentally ill, according to his family. [Read more…]

Thousands attend funeral for Israeli policewoman killed in terror attack

(JTA) – Thousands attended the funeral of Israeli Border Police officer Hadas Malka, who was killed by a Palestinian terrorist.

The funeral at a military cemetery in Ashdod began just after midnight Sunday morning, about 24 hours after she died of her wounds sustained during the Friday night attack near the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. [Read more…]

Israel to reduce electricity supplied to Gaza at Abbas’ request

JERUSALEM (JTA) – Israel’s security cabinet agreed to reduce the amount of electricity Israel supplies to the Gaza Strip at the request of Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas.

Abbas said he would reduce by 40 per cent how much money the PA pays Israel to supply the electricity, with a concurrent reduction in the amount of electricity delivered, Haaretz reported. He reportedly made the decision in order to put pressure on Hamas in Gaza. [Read more…]

Spanish police arrest Hamas supporter accused of inciting violence against Jews

(JTA) – Police in Spain arrested a young Arab woman whom they said called for violence against Jews online and was flagged gathering intelligence about Israel’s embassy in Madrid.

The 23-year-old woman, who is a Moroccan citizen of Syrian and Palestinian descent, was arrested this week in Zaragoza, 170 miles northeast of the capital, for hate speech and incitement to violence, police sources told the ABC newspaper. (JTA) – Jewish groups praised U.S. President Donald Trump for calling on Muslim nations to confront Islamist extremism during a speech to Muslim and Arab leaders at a summit in Saudi Arabia.

“Drive them out of your places of worship, drive them out of your communities, drive them out of your holy land and drive them out of this earth,” Trump said Sunday afternoon during a major speech to the Arabic Islamic American Summit in Riyadh, the Saudi capital.  [Read more…]
