(JTA) – Jewish groups praised U.S. President Donald Trump for calling on Muslim nations to confront Islamist extremism during a speech to Muslim and Arab leaders at a summit in Saudi Arabia.

Hamas absent from European Parliament resolution on peace process challenges

(JTA) – The European Parliament passed a resolution on Israel and the Palestinians that omits any reference to Hamas, but which advocates of the Jewish state said was more balanced than previous documents endorsed by that institution.

Titled “Achieving the Two-State Solution in the Middle-East,” the resolution passed Thursday in Strasbourg “condemns all acts of violence, acts of terrorism against Israelis, and incitement to violence which are fundamentally incompatible with advancing a peaceful two-state solution.” [Read more…]


Palestinian Authority to stop paying Israel for electricity used in Hamas-run Gaza

(JTA) – The Palestinian Authority (PA) will stop paying Israel for the electricity it provides to the Gaza Strip, which is run by the Hamas terror organization.

In a move seen as a way for the Palestinian Authority to pressure Hamas to relinquish control of Gaza, the PA informed the co-ordinator of government activities in the territories, Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, on Thursday that it would stop the payments effective immediately. Hamas seized power in Gaza from the Palestinian Authority in 2007. [Read more…]


Israeli tanks slam Hamas position in Gaza after soldiers come under fire

(JTA) – Israeli tanks fired at a Hamas position in Gaza after soldiers came under fire while working on the coastal strip’s border with Israel.

Israeli news reports said the Hamas position was destroyed.

According to the Israeli army, the soldiers were carrying out “routine activities” near the southern Gaza border fence on Thursday morning when they were fired upon from inside Gaza. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the attack, for which no group in Gaza has claimed responsibility.


Gazan Palestinian loses UN position over ties to Hamas

(JTA) – A Palestinian Gazan is no longer employed by a United Nations Agency for Palestinian refugees after it was discovered that he was elected to the leadership of the terrorist group Hamas.

Agency leaders did not tell media who inquired over the weekend whether Suhail al-Hindi resigned or was fired from the UN Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA, according to reports. [Read more…]


Parents of soldiers killed in 2014 Gaza war rip Netanyahu at hearing

JERUSALEM (JTA) – The parents of soldiers killed in Israel’s 2014 Gaza War verbally attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government during a Knesset hearing, with one throwing a cup of water at a lawmaker.

At the Knesset State Control Committee hearing Wednesday on the state comptroller’s report on the war, the mother of Lt. Hadar Goldin, a soldier whose remains are still held by Hamas in Gaza, told Netanyahu that he has turned the bereaved families seeking the return of their children’s remains into “enemies of the people.” [Read more…]


Palestinian sisters crossing into Israel for cancer treatment caught smuggling explosives

(JTA) – Two Palestinian sisters attempting to cross into Israel from the Gaza Strip so that one could receive cancer treatment were caught smuggling explosives.

The explosives, used in the production of homemade bombs, were hidden in tubes carried by the women labeled “medical materials,” the Shin Bet security service said in a statement issued Wednesday evening, hours after the women were stopped at the Erez Crossing. [Read more…]
