Palestinian terror groups say they will observe cease-fire

(JTA) – Palestinian terror groups in Gaza reportedly have agreed to commit to a cease-fire of hostilities that have seen more than 400 rockets bombard southern Israel and Israeli retaliation in a 25-hour period.

Four mediators – Egypt, the United Nations, Norway and Switzerland – helped achieve the cease-fire, according to reports. [Read more…]

(JTA) – One person was killed and two seriously injured after a rocket fired from Gaza landed on an apartment building, as southern Israel remained under rocket siege for a second day.

The rocket hit the upper floors of a four-story apartment in Ashkelon shortly before midnight on Monday night. The body and one of the injured women were discovered early on Tuesday morning under the debris of a fallen wall. [Read more…]

Mass prayer in Jerusalem marks national day for Ethiopian Jews

JERUSALEM (JTA) – On a national holiday for Ethiopian Jews, before a crowd of tens of thousands, the president of Israel vowed that the citizens of his country will not discriminate on the basis of skin colour.

“We are brothers and sisters, and anyone who tries to undermine that has no place amongst the tribes of Israel,” Reuven Rivlin said in his address Wednesday to mark Sigd, a state holiday since 2008 that marks the Ethiopians’ yearning to return to Jerusalem and Zion. [Read more…]

Israeli jets hit 80 Gaza targets after dozens of rockets fired at southern Israel communities

(JTA) – Israeli jets struck more than 80 Hamas terror targets in Gaza after dozens of rockets were fired from the coastal strip at civilian communities in southern Israel.

Nearly 40 rockets were fired at southern Israel from Gaza on Friday night and early on Saturday morning, triggering dozens of Code Red rocket alert sirens in the communities, according to the Israel Defense Forces. [Read more…]

Israel says Gaza rocket that levelled Beersheba home was fired by accident

(JTA) – A rocket fired last week from Gaza that levelled a home in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba was fired due to a malfunction caused by a lightning storm.

Ynet reported Tuesday that Israel’s Security Cabinet decided against launching a military operation in Gaza after Israeli intelligence determined that the rockets were fired accidentally. [Read more…]

(JTA) – A single mother whose Beersheba home was leveled by a rocket fired from Gaza said she and her three boys have nothing left.

(JTA) – A rocket fired from Gaza landed on a home in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba, reducing the home to rubble.

Several rockets were fired from Gaza at civilian areas of southern Israel beginning at about 3:30 am on Wednesday. Israel responded Wednesday morning by bombing at least 20 military targets in Gaza, including a terror tunnel that stretched from Gaza into Israeli territory. [Read more…]

(JTA) – The Israeli army destroyed a tunnel built by the terrorist group Hamas that crossed from Gaza into Israel.

The tunnel, nearly a mile long, originated in the Khan Younis area of the central Gaza Strip and stretched more than 200 yards into Israeli territory. It branched off in several places to connect to the network of Hamas tunnels under Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces said, and was equipped with power and telephone lines. [Read more…]

Jewish day school in Toronto vandalized with graffiti supporting Hamas

(JTA) – A Jewish day school in Toronto was vandalized by graffiti supporting the Palestinian cause and the Gaza terrorist group Hamas.

“Free Palestine,” “Long Live Palestine” and “Long Life to the Hamas” were found Tuesday morning on signs in front of the Leo Baeck Day School. The vandalism occurred the previous evening, which was the Thanksgiving holiday. [Read more…]
