The Ottawa Jewish community has many programs for families, children and adults but for middle-aged and older Jews who are single, widowed, divorced, or separated, it’s hard to find each other. A lot of emphasis in Judaism is on families and those who are not part of a couple may feel left out. For those wishing to begin anew, targeted programming is required; otherwise, the process of meeting new people can feel daunting if not outright isolating.
To this end, Congregation Machzikei Hadas will host a wine tasting event on Saturday, March 4, 8 pm for Jewish singles aged 45 and older. The event will be held at a private home in Centretown and those who RSVP will receive the address.
The event will include a sommelier who will guide the wine-tasting with four red and four white wines, hors d’oeuvres and dessert and the event is timed to enable guests to sample kosher wines one month before Passover. The wine may be purchased from Na’amat at the event for pick-up before Passover.
Israeli wines will be part of the wine-tasting event. Israeli wines are coming into their own and are being recognized the world over including at the LCBO. In the February 18 issue of Vintages, the LCBO publication for wine aficionados, six Israeli kosher-for-Passover wines were given rave reviews in a four-page spread.
The Vintages article noted, “a stellar reputation and international recognition driven by quality crafting define today’s wine scene in Israel,” and that there are now wineries in Israel!
To register for the event, contact Alex Griller by March 1 at 613-859-6979 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You’ll be able to mix and mingle in a comfortable atmosphere over a glass of wine while meeting new people and getting a head start on Passover wine shopping.
