(JTA) – Six Arab-Israelis were arrested for attempting to join the Islamic State in Syria.
The men, investigated in a joint operation between the Shin Bet security service and the Israel Police, were from the central Israeli town of Jaljuliya. A gag order on the arrests was lifted on Wednesday.
The investigation began after another resident of Jaljuliya, Nadal Salah, 23, entered Syria illegally three weeks ago on a paraglider from the Golan Heights in order to join the Islamic State.
Two of the arrested men are brothers of Salah, who allegedly helped him cross the border. The other four took religion lessons from Salah and thought they would cross into Syria via Turkey.
