Palestinian assailant killed in attempted stabbing attack

(JTA) – A Palestinian man was shot and killed during an attempted stabbing attack in the West Bank.

The alleged assailant attempted to stab Israeli Border Police officers at an army checkpoint near the Tapuah junction in the northern West Bank on Thursday morning.

The man was identified by Palestinian sources as 51-year-old Samir Seresi. He brandished the knife while running toward the soldiers yelling “Allahu akbar,” or God is great, according to police.

Three soldiers were injured in a car attack at the junction on Tuesday.

Earlier on Thursday, a Palestinian man, 21, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers during a raid in the West Bank town of Qatanna, near Jerusalem. During the raid, troops searching for suspected terrorists and weapons clashed with residents, leading to the use of tear gas and guns, the Palestinian news agency Maan reported. The victim was shot in the head during the clashes, according to Maan.

The Israel Defense Forces said that troops uncovered IDF uniforms, weapons and ammunition in the raid and said it was aware of reports of a Palestinian casualty, Haaretz reported.
