JERUSALEM (JTA) – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will investigate whether there is a tunnel running under a kibbutz located on the border with Gaza.
The investigation was reported Wednesday on Israel Channel 10 and confirmed by the IDF.
The IDF decided to conduct the investigation after Kibbutz Nirim hired a private geophysical survey mapping company to check for underground building in the area of the kibbutz. Residents of the kibbutz have been complaining they heard work going on under their homes. The residents had also complained before Israel’s operation in Gaza last summer.
There also have been reports in the international media that Hamas has been rebuilding terror tunnels running from Gaza to communities in southern Israel.
The company, Geotech, determined with 70 percent certainty that a tunnel had been constructed beneath the kibbutz, the Times of Israel reported, citing the company’s private report.
