Jerusalem – Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday in Jerusalem to discuss co-operation on a number of important regional and security issues.

“The great struggle of our generation is terrorism, and far too often the State of Israel and its people are on the front line of that struggle,” said Baird.

In welcoming Baird, paid tribute to what he described as Canada’s clarity and courage on peace and security issues. As well as the fight against terrorism, they also discussed their shared concerns about Iran’s nuclear program.

“Canada doesn’t stand behind Israel, we stand shoulder to shoulder with it,” said Baird. “The friendship and partnership between our nations has never been stronger.”

Baird is meeting with a number of senior government and political figures in Israel and has agreed to deepening collaboration in a number of areas.
