JERUSALEM- Israeli police have detained 30 senior officials accused of corruption, including Deputy Interior Minister Faina Kirshenbaum.
The officials, who where detained Wednesday morning after a yearlong investigation, also include a former government minister and senior officials in government ministries, in addition to mayors, heads of NGOs, union chiefs and officers in government corporations. A Hamas sniper opened fire on an IDF patrol Wednesday morning, according to Israeli reports. The IDF returned tank fire, killing Tayseer al-Ismary, 33, a Hamas military commander. IDF fire also wounded four others.
The incident follows an exchange of fire between Israel and Gaza on Friday, when a rocket was fired into Israel from Gaza and Israel conducted an airstrike over the coastal strip in response. That exchange was the first fighting between the sides since the 50-day war between Israel and Hamas this summer.

The compensation payments, issued to hundreds of victims since 2007, were first reported on Sunday by the German news weekly Focus, according to the French news agency AFP. Focus reported that Germany paid compensation for victims including 10 people, most of them Turkish, killed by the National Socialist Underground between 2000 and 2007, as well as victims of the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 and a 2011 attack on a Moscow airport. JERUSALEM – An emergency response team from the Israeli NGO IsraAID has been providing medical, psychological, social and material relief in the wake of a typhoon in the Philippines.
IsraAID and its local partner agency IsraAID Philippines, with the support of the American Jewish Committee, have been working in the Can-Avid municipality , located less than 15 miles from the city of Dolores in the country’s Eastern Samar province, where Typhoon Ruby, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Hagupit, struck nearly two weeks ago. It is not known whether the drone was shot down or if it crashed near the town of Quneitra, located in an area between the two countries patrolled by United Nations peacekeepers, on Sunday. The area has been the site of fierce battles during Syria’s four-year-long civil war, with some rockets and shells landing over the border in Israel.
The IDF said it did not know of any unmanned aerial vehicles brought down in Syria.
The drone was identified by Syrian media as a Skylark, which is used in intelligence gathering.
The Palestinian from Tul Karem on Monday pulled out a knife at the Nitzanei Oz crossing near Netanya in central Israel, the IDF spokesman said.
The attacker was detained for further questioning.
There were no injuries in the foiled attack.
On Sunday, two Palestinians brandishing knives were caught by Israeli troops near the West Bank settlement of Adam, north of Jerusalem.
