JERUSALEM (JTA) – Two Israeli soldiers were injured by a bomb planted near the border with Lebanon.
Tuesday’s explosion was caused by a bomb “planted with the intention of attacking IDF soldiers,” the Israel Defense Forces said.
Israel returned fire with tank shells into southern Lebanon following the attack, the Daily Star reported.
The soldiers were taken to an Israeli hospital for treatment. There has not yet been a claim of responsibility for the bombing.
The incident comes two days after Israeli troops fired on two suspects infiltrating into Israeli territory from Lebanon. The suspects escaped and returned to Lebanon. Lebanese security sources told the Daily Star of Lebanon that Israeli soldiers fired on a Lebanese army patrol in the Sheba Farms area near the border with Israel, wounding one soldier.
